Angel’s Envy Cask Strength 2022 is a limited-edition, 119.8-proof (59.9% ABV) bourbon and the 11th release in Angel’s Envy’s Cask Strength program.

Each year, as part of the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength program, the Angel’s Envy team selects noteworthy barrels from its rickhouses (a rickhouse is a storage space for whiskey barrels during the aging process) to put through an extended finishing process in port wine barrels from Portugal. These special barrels bring forward distinct characteristics in the whiskey, giving each expression of Angel’s Envy Cask Strength a unique nose, palate and finish.
It is finished in Port Wine Barrels offers hints of leather, brown sugar and caramel on the nose, followed by crème brûlée and marshmallow with notes of green apple and orange.

ANGELS’ ENVY CASK STRENGTH

NOSE: Begins with hints of leather, brown sugar and caramel, followed by crème brûlée, marshmallow, green apple and citrus orange.
PALATE: Apples, caramel, and brown sugar. The creaminess pairs with orange from the nose, creating a dessert-like richness. Vanilla, toasted oak and black pepper spice round it out.
FINISH: Slight fruitiness and grape tannic notes with a lingering spice.

Responsible for helping develop Woodford Reserve where he was master distiller for 39 years, he now works with his son Wesley running their family business, the Louisville Distilling Company. Aged for 4 to 6 years in white American oak it then spends a further 3 to 6 months finishing in Ruby Port casks. A light, sweet and floral nose with lots of vanilla bean lead on to an incredibly balanced and smooth palate. After sampling over 100 rums to find the right flavor to complement rye whiskey, the team’s decision was unanimous. Angel’s Envy spends up to 18 months finishing in Caribbean rum casks, resulting in an immensely complex whiskey.
